Medication-management

The right medication, at the right dose, for the right reason.

Medication management is the ongoing partnership between my patients and me to ensure that any medicines they take for mental‑health concerns are safe, effective, and tailored to their unique needs. It begins with a thorough review of your symptoms, medical history, current health conditions, and any other medications or supplements you’re using. Based on this information, I select an appropriate drug and dosage, explain how it works, and outline what you might expect in terms of benefits and possible side effects.

After you start the medication, you’ll have regular follow‑up appointments (often every few weeks at first, then less frequently once things stabilize). During these visits, I ask how you’re feeling, whether your symptoms have improved, and whether you’ve noticed any unwanted effects such as fatigue, weight changes, or mood swings. They may also run simple lab tests or check vital signs to monitor how your body is responding. If the medication isn’t providing enough relief, causes bothersome side effects, or interacts with another drug you’re taking, I can increase or decrease the dose, switch to a different medication, deprescribe one or more medications, or add another treatment to fine‑tune the regimen.

Throughout this process, clear communication is essential—you’re encouraged to report any concerns promptly, keep a log of how you feel each day, and ask questions whenever something isn’t clear. The goal of medication management is to find the right balance where the medication helps you feel better and function more comfortably, while minimizing risks and supporting your overall health and well‑being.
